Entry requirements

All potential participants are interviewed by Skill Hire prior to being accepted into the program. Set intake periods and maximum class numbers apply to this course.

To be eligible for free training, you must have left school, have your primary place of residence in Western Australia, and are either:

• An Australian citizen; or
• A permanent visa holder
• Unemployed; or
• Under-employed (less than 20 hours per week)

Learner resources

All learning resources, materials and laptops required for training will be supplied by Skill Hire for use during the program.

Fee free training is available for this course, to help build WA’s skilled workforce.

Recommended course structure

The Work Safety in Construction Skill Set will get you job ready for entry level roles in the construction field, such as trades assistant (TA) or general labourer in 3 weeks, 4 days per week.

It includes

• how to follow mandatory work health and safety requirements in accordance with safety legislative requirements
• infection control and prevention procedures to ensure you are working safely
• how to use a range of construction equipment and tools including levelling devices,
• skills to work in a construction team
• basic construction work applications for new and existing structures including residential homes, units and apartments.
